A Trackie Pants Kind of Day
Today was a blustery Brisbane day. Random sun showers and chilly winds made it perfect for staying home in our tracksuit pants and just relaxing.
Loc and I like to read to Archie as much as we can. And today, I read Archie his special copy of "The Flying Orchestra" by Clare McFadden.
I loved it and thought it was the perfect book for Archie, who will be four months old tomorrow. The simple text and beautiful, intricate images really captured his (and my!) attention. I can see that it's the kind of book that he will love to read as he gets older. I can imagine him examining the illustrations for all the little details, and asking us questions like "what's a sonata?".
We love music in our family too, so "The Flying Orchestra" will be a great book for teaching our little man about things like who makes music, what kind of music you can make and why music is so important in our lives.
I can't wait to see the special, world premiere of "The Flying Orchestra" on stage at the Out of the Box Festival next month. Loc, Archie and I have been invited to the final dress rehearsal at the Lyric Theatre, which is so very exciting! I think there are a million ways this beautiful book could be interpreted for the stage, and I can't wait to see how the production team and performers have taken the story 'from page to stage'.
Even though Archie is so little, I think he will be mesmerised by the puppets. Seeing "The Flying Orchestra" will be our first family theatre outing - a memory I can't wait to create!
So, during today's blustery autumn day while the winds blew outside of our windows, The Flying Orchestra blew into our imaginations. And in two weeks time we'll see how our imagination can be fuelled even more by the performances at Out of the Box.

What a wonderful way to spend a day inside! We are all so excited about the dress rehearsal of The Flying Orchestra. With a sneak peek at the props and sets every now and then it is going to be an experience to remember - one we hope Archie will love too!
